A make-up artist, also known as a makeup artist and frequently abbreviated as MUA, is a creative professional whose primary medium is the human body. MUAs work on people to apply makeup and prosthetics for productions in theater, television, film, fashion, magazines, and other settings, including all facets of the modeling business. The Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling[1] and prizes from the entertainment business like the Emmy Awards[2][3] and the Golden Globes are among those granted for this profession in the entertainment industry. [4] In several nations, agencies must have professional licenses before they may hire MUAs. Larger production companies[5] employ makeup artists on staff, but most MUAs are independent contractors, and their hours can change depending on the job.
